Removing the access panels and assessing the situation
Removing the propeller

The following photos of the project are the removal of the access panels and
cleaning out the plane at the Connecticut Air and Space Center.

Today is 18 October 2008, and I am ready.
I guess that this is the fixer-uper area, and do I need it!

Just a walk-a-round,

to size up the project

and get a feel for what must be done,

and do it right the first time.

This is the starboard flap inboard section.

Today is 25 October 2008 and the access panels are coming off.
Ahh. it is good to be able to breathe again.

Here you can see the tail wheel cover is removed.
I say cover, because the doors have been removed.

The engine access panels are removed.
Also the aluminum cover over the cockpit is also removed.

In this close-up of the engine you can see some of the
bird nests near the bottom cylinders.

Now, you want to talk about bird nests.
Check out the one between the rudder peddles

And the drawings on the instrument panel.

And the controls that won't move.

The radio compartment looks OK, a little bit.

Looking aft from where the pilot's seat would be, if there was one.

Looking down from where the pilot's seat would be.

Joe LoSardo inspecting the wheel well and main spar.

Notice that the P&W emblem is missing,
oh, and there is some paint on the engine too.

A close-up of the paint.

Starboard side view of the firewall.

Close-up view of the firewall.
The oil tank is also missing.
The tank capacity is 98 liters (26 US gal).

Close-up view of the engine mount to the firewall,
and the starboard Supercharger housing.

Starboard side view of the engine exhaust stacks.

Another close-up of the engine you can see some of the
bird nests near the bottom cylinders.
